<image:caption>And it didn’t stop there. Over the next year, my collection grew: the Sony 50mm f/1.4 GM, a Sigma 100–400mm DG/DN OS telephoto, a Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8, and a Zeiss Sonnar 35mm f/2.8. By my second year of shooting, I even added a Fujifilm X100VI to my bag—a fun, compact everyday carry that taught me the freedom of a fixed lens.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - 2025: The Year of the 50mm - It all began with my new camera—the Leica M11.</image:title>
<image:caption>Treating myself to my first Leica this year has significantly reshaped my photography experience. While experimenting with the Leica’s optical viewfinder, I unexpectedly discovered that the 50mm framelines perfectly suited my vision. Unlike the 35mm framelines, which were challenging to see clearly with my glasses, the 50mm framelines offered a comfortable balance between viewing beyond the frame and composing with ease. Every camera system requires adapting one's habits, and I'm willing to embrace this shift.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Books That Shaped My Photographic Vision - A Masterclass in Composition</image:title>
<image:caption>From the moment I first encountered George Byrne’s work, I was drawn to his impeccable sense of composition. In Post Truth, he distills the geometry of everyday urban landscapes into near-abstract shapes and dreamy color palettes. It’s minimalism at its finest—yet there’s so much to explore in every corner of his images. Byrne’s work reminds me that clean lines, thoughtful framing, and subtle color accents can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. This book has had one of the strongest impacts on me, showing that less can sometimes be more, and that composition is often what makes or breaks a photograph.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Books That Shaped My Photographic Vision - Using the camera like a paintbrush</image:title>
<image:caption>Ernst Haas is often celebrated as a pioneer of color photography, but Abstract shows just how painterly his approach could be. Through careful attention to color, light, and movement, Haas turned everyday scenes into vibrant, nearly surreal works of art. His images possess a timeless quality—some feel as though they could have been shot yesterday, others like they belong in an abstract painting exhibition. Reading Abstract shifted my perspective on what photography could look like. Haas emboldens photographers to see beyond the literal. Rather than merely documenting what’s there, he demonstrates that the camera can be a tool for creative expression, much like a paintbrush on canvas.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Books That Shaped My Photographic Vision - Filling the Frame & Embracing Color</image:title>
<image:caption>Alex Webb’s photography is a feast for the eyes. In The Suffering of Light, his use of vibrant color creates images that feel alive—teeming with stories and hidden layers. Webb’s ability to fill every inch of the frame without it feeling chaotic is one of his greatest gifts. He proves that complexity, when harnessed properly, can be captivating rather than overwhelming. You’ll notice I rarely shoot in B&W… Webb is a huge part of the reason why.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Books That Shaped My Photographic Vision - A lifetime dedicated to photography—embracing multiple genres</image:title>
<image:caption>If you need evidence that a photographer’s vision can evolve over decades and still remain cohesive, look no further than Joel Meyerowitz’s body of work. Where I Find Myself spans his entire career, from his early street photography in New York to his iconic large-format Cape Light series. What strikes me most is Meyerowitz’s curiosity—how he unapologetically explores different genres, from street to landscape to portraiture. This book reassured me it’s okay not to be pigeonholed into one style. Photography is an expansive art form, and delving into various genres can keep your creative spirit alive. Meyerowitz shows that with sincerity, thoughtful composition, and an unwavering devotion, you can build a portfolio that is both diverse and uniquely your own.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Books That Shaped My Photographic Vision - The power of raw, thought-provoking content</image:title>
<image:caption>Jerry Hsu gained notoriety as a professional skateboarder, but his foray into photography has been equally compelling. The Beautiful Flower Is The World may not look like your typical polished coffee-table book, yet its gritty, raw nature is precisely what makes it so impactful. Hsu’s images highlight the humor, chaos, and candid moments of everyday life. His work is a reminder that photography doesn’t always need to be pristine or traditionally “beautiful.” Sometimes the most thought-provoking images are the ones that challenge comfort zones. Hsu’s point-and-shoot style can be surprising or even shocking, yet it’s undeniably human. It taught me to lean into the authenticity of a moment, even if it’s unpolished.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Books That Shaped My Photographic Vision - Capture the moments with your friends - especially while you’re young</image:title>
<image:caption>Sagan Lockhart’s I Don’t Play is a poignant reminder of how meaningful the snapshots of our personal lives can become over time. Lockhart focuses on youth culture, skateboarding, and candid portraits of friends—images that feel genuine and immediate. Instead of contrived or overly planned shots, this book depicts spontaneous connections and fleeting moments. We often overlook everyday experiences, forgetting that they hold emotional weight when we look back on them years later. Lockhart’s images encourage me to keep my camera close, especially during unassuming moments. We may think these photos are “just for fun,” but they often become the most heartfelt pieces of our personal photographic archives.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Why My “Best” Camera Isn’t My Most Used Camera</image:title>
<image:caption>For the last year, I’ve been shooting with the Sony A7CII, a powerhouse of a camera that offers full-frame quality, phenomenal autofocus, and the flexibility of interchangeable lenses. Then, about six months ago, I picked up a Fujifilm X100VI—a simpler, fixed-lens camera that seems to have a magical allure. Ironically, even though the Sony is the more “capable” camera on paper, the Fuji is the one I reach for day in and day out. Here’s why.</image:caption>
</image:image>

<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/658279b621b93e044e2acfc7/077bc61e-aeac-48ed-afc1-2e6819fa69a8/IMG_2874.jpeg</image:loc>
<image:title>Blog - Why My “Best” Camera Isn’t My Most Used Camera</image:title>
<image:caption>Let’s start with the obvious: the Sony A7CII is objectively better in many ways. Its full-frame sensor delivers stunning resolution and low-light performance, and the autofocus system is second to none—something you really appreciate when shooting portraits, action, or low-light events. Plus, being able to switch lenses gives me the creative freedom to tackle any scenario, from ultra-wide landscapes to telephoto close-ups. For formal or professional work—like family portraits, special events, or anything requiring that extra polish—the Sony truly shines. It has that pro-level image quality and consistency you can rely on. Whenever I have a dedicated shoot planned or a once-in-a-lifetime trip, that’s usually the camera I pack, along with a variety of lenses.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Why My “Best” Camera Isn’t My Most Used Camera</image:title>
<image:caption>Now, let’s talk about why I gravitate to the Fujifilm X100VI for almost everything else, especially street photography and everyday moments. A few key points make it irresistible:</image:caption>

(Why does my exported image say 35mm if the EXIF data says 23mm? 35mm is the full frame equivalent, because the X100VI is a crop sensor, you have to multiply the 23mm by 1.5X to get the full frame focal length )</image:caption>

<image:caption>I check the EXIF data in Apple Photos and type it into my Photoshop template by hand. This data often includes: Focal Length / Lens Info Aperture Shutter speed ISO This adds a layer of depth and context for viewers who want to understand the technical side of the shot. More importantly it serves as reminder for me as to what my settings were for shots that I really like. Something I learned about myself last year through this process is how much I love the 35mm Focal Length, I deviate rarely from it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Seattle in Winter - The next day I was back to the market for more street shooting. I happened to catch this amazing moment downstairs where a few men were pointing right next to a wheat-paste of a pointing hand. Does art imitate life or does life imitate art? This one really made me smile, it reminded me of some of Mike Chudley’s work - specifically the one shot he has of the people with their hands up right in front of a poster featuring people with their hands up.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Seattle in Winter - I spent a lot of my time at Pikes Place Market. There is so much going on outside the market, inside the market, along Post Alley and then some. Every day I went to the market I found new angles, frames, subjects, and stories. It was one of the most fun places I’ve ever shot, and I was grateful to be staying just a few blocks away from what appears to be a street photographer’s paradise.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Seattle in Winter - I recently took a trip up to Seattle for work, not only was it an awesome opportunity for my day job, it was also a great chance for me to shoot in one of the Pacific North West’s most beautiful cities. As always, the first step of any trip is packing - and I had some difficult gear choices to make! I’m lucky enough to have quite a few lenses, I wanted to pack as light as possible with the goals of focusing mainly on street photography while I was there. Given that light is scarce in Seattle during winter, I decided to prioritize my fastest primes. I packed a 35mm Sony GM 1.4, a 50mm Sony GM 1.4 (which I ended up not using at all) & a 85mm Zeiss Batis 1.8. I also threw in my 100-400mm Sigma telephoto lens to grab a quick pick of the Space Needle from Kerry Park. [Note, in retrospect I should’ve skipped the 50mm altogether, and swapped the 35mm Sony GM 1.4 for a 35mm Zeiss 2.8 for compactness]</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Seattle in Winter - The next day, I decided to make my way up to Capitol Hill while bouncing between Pike & Pine st. I snagged a few captures along the way, including this one of a man ducking down in a uniquely shaped window. It almost appears as if he’s ducking the sight of some marksman given the reticle shaped glass. Capitol Hill is an awesome neighborhood, with lots of young people and lively streets - even in the gloomy weather. I highly recommend grabbing a beer at one of the many brewpubs in the area.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Seattle in Winter - My final day in Seattle yielded some of the best photos of the entire trip in my opinion. There was some sort of local event at the market that caused it to be even busier than normal. At most points, I was feeling overwhelmed with how much was going on around me. I kept moving looking for interesting subjects when I came across this gentleman who was looking into some locally sourced honey. His facial hair was immaculate and I loved how intensely he was studying each variation of honey. I lined up the shot and hit my shutter button, resulting in my favorite shot from the trip.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Night/Street Photography @ DOCO Sacramento - I parked at the parking garage next to the Golden 1 Center, mounted my 35mm 1.4 GM Lens onto my Sony A7Cii and hit the streets. DOCO has a tremendous amount of light at night due to the massive electronic billboards and modern street lights - perfect for night photography. I walked through DOCO to K Street, where I captured a bit of life in Sacramento on a Friday night.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Night/Street Photography @ DOCO Sacramento - Several nights ago my family went to bed early as they were still jet lagged from our trip to Austria. <image:title>Blog - Night/Street Photography @ DOCO Sacramento - The 35mm GM Lens excels in low light situations since you can open the aperture all the way to ƒ1.4, still, I decided to stop down to ƒ4 in order to capture just a bit more detail in this photo since the mural in the background is so nice. I generally prefer higher shutter speeds, as they make for more crisp, sharp images. I also haven’t really made friends with motion blur yet, but I had to lower my shutter speed in order to get the exposure correct with my aperture at ƒ4 and my ISO at 6400. That said, I really like the slight blur on this mans left foot as he steps in front of a beautiful mural on Merchant St. 1/60s is usually much slower than my preferred 1/250s shutter speed minimum, but this photo is teaching me that a little bit of motion blur can actually add something to the image, rather than detract from it.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Austria - The weather was absolutely brutal the first three days, with a lot of fierce wind and unrelenting rain. We spent the time indoors hanging out with the extended Family that we had flown to see and packing presents for the holiday. Still, I managed to grab a pic or two of the beautiful mountains that surrounded us by opening the doors to our back porch</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Austria - We spent Christmas inside with the Family, but the day after we decided to make our way to the famous town of Hallstatt. The town was incredibly picturesque, with beautiful Austrian architecture and scenic mountains to frame it. We grabbed a delicious jelly filled donut and walked up and down Seestraße where we saw several elegant swans among other various water fowl. I snapped several photos, but the one pictured here is my absolute favorite.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Austria - Our short trip had come to an end, the next day we packed up our things and drove back to the Munich International Airport. It was awesome to make that drive during the day and see all the scenery that we had missed the night that we arrived. What beautiful country, both Austria & Bavaria. I’m grateful that we had such an amazing family trip and rekindled our love of international travel after such a long hiatus. It was wonderful to meet my wife’s extended family and get to know everyone over many drinks and games. Special thanks to my Father-In-Law for flying us out and my Brother-In-Law for hosting us at his resort.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Austria - On December 23rd, despite the weather still not clearing, we decided to head into Salzburg to check out the Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market). Luck was on our side and when we arrived the rain had finally subsided, allowing us to walk from the parking garage to the market down the beautiful Linzer Gasse. The Christmas Market was a really unique experience, we enjoyed some hot spiced gluhwein among other Austrian delicacies leaving us all joyful and ready for the holiday.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Austria - On Christmas Eve, we had plans to visit my Father-In-Law’s hometown, Rauris. We piled into the car to take a short two hour drive through the Alps to visit his childhood home which he, his father, and his mother had built by hand over the course of several years. A few of his childhood friends welcomed us warmly to their beautiful hotel, Wander-Hotel Rauriserhof, for some tea & coffee. I’d highly recommend you stay there if you ever find yourself in Rauris. We took some time to head to the local church where my son’s great grandparents were married & later on buried to pay our respects. It was a special time for our family and it was great for my son & I to learn a bit more about his maternal grandfather’s roots.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Austria - For Christmas this year my family took an amazing trip to Hallstätter See in Austria. It was our first time flying internationally since the pandemic and our first time flying with our children who are both under three. Thankfully, the kids were absolutely amazing on our flight and slept through most of it. We landed in Munich late at night, picked up our rental car and proceeded to drive three hours southward. Sadly we missed a lot of the beauty Bavaria has to offer as it was too dark and stormy to really see anything. Finally, after over fifteen hours of travel, we arrived safely at Dormio Resort Obertraun on the South-East end of Hallstätter See.</image:title>
